Wine drinking window tracker
Track drinking windows and open every wine at its best
The most expensive mistake in a cellar is not a bad purchase — it is a great bottle opened five years too late. ViniQ follows the maturity of each wine so you do not have to.

What a drinking window is
A drinking window is the span of years in which a wine is expected to show well: from when its tannins and acidity have integrated (drink from) until fruit starts to fade (drink by). Some wines also have a peak — the years in which they are expected to be at their very best.
Windows are estimates, not deadlines. They depend on the producer, the vintage, bottle size and especially storage. A wine kept at a steady 10–14 °C will age more slowly and predictably than one kept in a warm kitchen.
How ViniQ tracks maturity
Windows on every bottle
Store drink-from, peak and drink-by years for each wine, using your own judgement, critic guidance or ViniQ's suggestions.

Rules of thumb when no window is given
Most whites and rosés
Typically best within 1–4 years of vintage; top white Burgundy, Riesling and Chenin can go much longer.
Everyday reds
Usually 2–6 years. Fruit-forward styles are made to be enjoyed young.
Structured reds
Classified Bordeaux, Barolo, Brunello and northern Rhône often need 8–10 years or more to open up.
Vintage Port and sweet wines
Can develop for decades; check producer guidance rather than guessing.
Frequently asked questions
- Where do drinking windows come from?
- You can enter them yourself, copy them from a producer or critic, or start from ViniQ's suggestion and adjust it.
- Will I be notified when a wine is about to pass its peak?
- Yes. ViniQ can send email digests about wines approaching or passing the end of their drinking window. You control this in your profile.
- Does storage affect the window?
- Yes. Warmer or fluctuating storage speeds up ageing, so wines kept in less ideal conditions should be opened toward the start of their window.
